Helping Agri-Food Businesses improve Profitability and move towards Net Zero
Navigating the path to Net Zero is complex, particularly so in the Agricultural sector as it is based on natural systems that produce Methane and Nitrous Oxide, both of which are potent Greenhouse Gases (GHG’s).
The move to Net Zero does not need to add cost. By focussing on efficiency, waste reduction and optimising procurement strategy, profitability can be enhanced and GHG emissions reduced.
I can help businesses and organisations in the Agri-Food sector navigate the path towards Net Zero without spiralling costs.
I offer a comprehensive consultancy service to the agri-food industry covering the complete supply chain from producer to consumer. Using my years of industry experience, I can help to generate improvements in:
- Process and Supply Chain efficiency
- Waste reduction
- Procurement Strategy
- Carbon Footprint measurement and development of mitigation strategy
This can lead to improved Profitability to help further invest in reducing Carbon Footprints to help meet obligations to meet Net Zero by 2050.
PROCESS & SUPPLY CHAIN EFFICIENCY
I offer expertise in supply chain efficiency, from farm to consumer, and waste reduction in the supply of fresh food products to help improve business profitability. My skills in analysis, strategy setting and leadership can identify opportunities to improve profitability.
I can evaluate supply chains using industry and organisational data, market analyses, quality reviews and waste flows. This exercise is conducted collaboratively with the organisation to generate problem-solving actions and practical solutions to improve efficiency along the chosen supply chain.
PROCUREMENT STRATEGY
My extensive procurement experience enables me to conduct reviews of procurement strategies to improve profitability, quality, service, ethical/ environmental sourcing and security of supply.
CARBON FOOTPRINT MEASUREMENT AND MANAGEMENT
I have experience in managing sustainability projects and the development of sustainability plans for businesses.
I have had specific training in Greenhouse Gases, Carbon and Climate Change Mitigation (Jan-Mar 2025) from ADAS Consultancy, achieving a BASIS certificate. The combination of carbon footprint management, waste reduction and supply chain efficiency are powerful tools to help long-term sustainability, both environmental and financial.
My extensive knowledge of the various parts of the fresh food industry, from agricultural production through processing, wholesale and retailing to the consumer, allied to commercial and technical expertise, provides a unique insight into fresh food production for the UK market covering UK and overseas agriculture.
I have in-depth knowledge and experience of various sectors including most of the livestock species for meat production and a wide range of vegetable crops as listed below.
- Legumes (beans and peas)
- Brassicas
- Specialist crops such as asparagus and chillies
- Cucurbits, including pumpkins and courgettes
- Root crops (e.g. potatoes and carrots)
- Ruminant species, cattle and sheep
- Pigs
- Poultry
My extensive knowledge of the various parts of the fresh food industry, from agricultural production through processing, wholesale and retailing to the consumer, allied to commercial and technical expertise, provides a unique insight into fresh food production for the UK market covering UK and overseas agriculture.
I managed UK asparagus, ensuring that the operational side was set up and ready for each season, programmes and contracts agreed with major UK retailers and growers, budgets set and tracked, operational performance tracked, and a full review conducted at season end to plan for the following year.
I led several category procurement reviews to improve the sourcing of raw materials or products. At M&S I managed a review of the pig meat supply chain for fresh pork, bacon and sausages which delivered improvements in cost of goods, quality, provenance, and security and sustainability of supply.
I led teams in sustainable sourcing at M&S to help achieve their Plan A commitments in the meat and vegetable categories. This included pursuing improved production efficiency at suppliers using Lean principles. Most initiatives were used to share cost improvements through the supply chain.
